Our First Home!

For the past few months I have been in search of a sublease for my apartment. For a while it seemed hopeless and we had decided to still get our own place and pay double rent until August..until..out the blue, we had a taker!  She emailed my roommate about a week ago with the hopes of moving in at the start of March!  Since that email Bryan and I have been scrambling around in search of a place to call home. The pressure was on as we had 10 days to find a place, get a lease signed, and get moved. With Bryan's challenging schedule and my spending 5 of those days in Iowa, we got right to work.

We drove by two places and didn't like either. The following morning Bryan called one place, I set up an appointment to look later that day, and gave her a deposit check before leaving!  Bryan hadn't even seem the place but I knew he would love it. Last night we met with the owner and snapped a few pictures.

The place was vacant for a year but was recently refurbished. The original window sills and hardwood floors. We are taking the bottom half of a duplex, it is about 1100 square feet and has tons of windows! Here is a show of the living area, taken from the entry of the kitchen.

The place is complete with a nice dining room area as well. There are some built in cabinets and a lot of open space. Complete with ceiling fans with lighting and air conditioning. This shot is taken from the living room through the dining room, peaking into the kitchen.
The kitchen has all newer appliances and tons of cabinet space! The counter area is limited but with the spacious dining room next door, things shouldn't get too crowded.
This will probably be our master bedroom. The closet is huge and more built in storage space. My favorite part of this room, the window seat. I can imagine Bryan snoring in bed while I curl up and read on a Saturday morning :)
This is the second bedroom. Again, more beautiful lighting and nice woodwork. You can see that this closet isn't as big but it is deep so it will certainly be sufficient.
We have one bathroom, it is nothing to brag about as you could probably wash your hands while sitting on the toilet but we don't plan to spend too much time in there anyway!
I forgot to snap pictures of the basement but we share it with the gals upstairs and have more storage as well as our own washer and dryer. There is a fenced in backyard and 2 stall garage that we will share. We are within walking distance to the Amtrack (quick ride to the airport of downtown), stationed between two great running areas, next to a golf course and a 5 minute drive to the dome.  We are super excited and inviting visitors as soon as March 7th. Come visit!!

Current Readings

With the long Minnesota winters comes ample time for reading...or Hulu/Internet browsing. Unfortunately for the first few months my down-time was devoted to the latter but recently my desire to curl up with a good book has been rekindled.

I used to read only one book at a time but when the reads are non-fiction books offering advice and direction on marriage, engagement, finances and personal training..they can only be seeped up in small doses.

Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. I've been hogging this one myself so Bryan hasn't even gotten to Chapter 1 but it is a wonderful picture of what a marriage could and should look like.

Everlasting Love (I can't remember the author and Bryan has the book). This shorter book was recommended by our premarital counseling class. It offers excellent insight and good points for discussion.

Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey.  As many marrying couples, we have some debt to take care of. After starting the financial peace class and digging into what Mr. Ramsey has to say, we feel that we are on the right track!

Fitness Training for Professionals. This is an old textbook from school but I feel like I could use a refresher. With the possibility of getting ACSM certified in the near future, I decided that it couldn't be too early to start studying!

There you have it! Next in line The 5 Love Languages  by Gary Chapman. After vowing to give up Hulu and get on Facebook only once a day, I have been able to take advantage of my snowy afternoon with some good reading.  Unfortunately with 36 hours of snow projected for the Sunday-Monday, it if perfect weather as well :)

Mia

Not only will I be inheriting a husband in a month, but I will have the privilege of mothering a dog. (Unless you want a dog, I will PAY you!) Just kidding.  Kind of.

This little gal has a lot of personality. For example, when she gets into something she wasn't supposed to or has an "accident" all you have do it look at her and she will drag her face across the floor to your feet in apology.

And when you are getting ready to leave, her sixth sense picks up and she races back and forth across the apartment in a plea for us to take her outside.  One of my favorite things to do is huck her stuffed raccoon onto the floor from the couch, she leaps off of the couch and slides to her toy. Its hilarious!

Parts of me love Mia to death, the other parts continually threaten to make her for dinner if she doesn't quit acting up.  All in all it will be nice to have a miniature running party and some company in the evenings with Bryan is at work. Also a good test to see if we are anywhere ready for kids :)
